Frigg's Chariot (Roman equivalent Venus) in Laguz brings forth magic, intuition and wisdom. Laguz is the rune of water and life. It is a gateway between worlds. After the ritual of the drinking Hall, the bustle of work and the ceremony of sovereignty the Goddess Frigg retires to her chamber. There she is said to spin the stuff of Wyrd itself; the raw material from which fate is written. Frigg knows that there are many forms of power and she reminds us that the retreat within, to the place of self-knowledge, freedom and dreaming is necessary just as necessary as the expressive, directing, manifesting work without.

We are currently in the half month of Mannaz, the rune of sovereignty and the divine spark within each human. Mannaz is connected to Odin and his ravens Huggin and Munnin (thought and memory).

As one of the last runes in the Elder Futhark the mysteries of Mannaz are deep, multi-layered and complex. The Mannaz rune helps us to tap into the Well of Wyrd (Urðarbrunnr) and Mimir’s Well (Mimisbrunnr) which hold the individual and collective memories of the past, not just from Midgard (our world) but also from the other worlds on the tree.

Skadi’s Hall is known as both Thrudheim (Power Hall) and Thrymheim (Noisy Hall) which to me speaks of the rawest, most elemental forces of nature. Skadi is fiercely independent, knows her rights and has little concern for convention or correctness.  Mannaz, Laguz and Inguz fall within Skadi’s sphere in a birth rune’s chart. Thrudheim is equivalent to Taurus in the Zodiac.

Long ago Odin breathed life into the first man and the first woman. He set in motion the story that is unfolding even now. Odin is a seeker of wisdom, insight and power. Yet in the northern pantheon even the Gods do not know the full picture of what is unfolding. Like us, they possess faith. Faith in something beyond their knowledge; and faith that they are connected to it. Odin took a leap of faith in us - so let's take a leap of faith in ourselves.

The edge of the new Moon is as a scythe cutting through what has come before and reaching towards desire, hope and purpose. It forms a moment for release, clarity and intention setting. Manni's Chariot in Ehwaz (partnership, the steed) speaks of the partnership the universe offers us when we are brave enough to take its hand. If you have a breathless dream - reach for it. If you have an unspoken desire - sing it now. If you are waiting for a sign - paint it in the sky.

Ehwaz is the rune of the steed and the rider; reminding us that 'Yggdrasil' (the only name of the world tree in current memory) means 'Odin's Steed'. There are times when the path to power lies in surrendering ourselves to the current and trusting we will be carried. The deeper you are able to trust in the universe, your inner guides and partners in this lifetime the higher you will soar. Lean into the wind and let it carry you. With a smile Odin reminds us that, if we fall, it is simply a sign we need to choose our partners more wisely next time.
