The Historical bit
Sadly we have no complete astrological system handed down from our northern European ancestors. We have calendars, archeological finds such as the Trundholm Sun Chariot and the voices of the runes themselves which are full of references to time and space. The partially reconstructed, partially re-imagined system I use is based on the work of Nigel Pennick from his book Starcraft and Time-keeping in the Northern Tradition. I have been working with this system for 15 years now.
The mythic bit
Northern tradition myths and legends abound with tales of fated heroes and wyrd-weavers. In the Poetic Edda the hero Helgi’s birth is heralded by the arrival of the Nornir (fates).
This passage speaks of the Nornir stretching golden threads across the land and fixing them in place across the night sky. Helgi’s name means ‘success’ or ‘dedicated to the Gods’. His soul is literally woven into our world by the fates. To me, this act of weaving across the night sky speaks clearly of a reading of the stars undertaken and ‘fixed’ for his lifetime.
The technical bit

For now it is enough to know that runic astrology works on the basis that the ‘ecliptic’ (the perceived course of the Sun and the planets) is divided into 24 equal parts; each devoted to a single rune. As the Sun and planets move around the eclipic their unique vibrations combine with the song of the rune in which they are located – a unique song is created for every moment. Your Sun rune is created by the vibration of the Sun within the sphere of your Sun rune at the moment of your birth.
What is your Sun Rune?
The Sun spends about 2 weeks each year in each rune; these phases are known as the ‘half-months’. They vary by a few days each year so the dates given below are broad indicators. If your birthday falls within 2-3 days of the beginning or end of a rune’s ‘half-month’ I offer the ‘My Sun Rune’ package which includes an exact calculation of your Sun Rune alongside your Awakening package.
