Everyone carries a personal rune connected to the position of the Sun at the moment they were born — much like a sun sign in astrology, but rooted in the old Northern tradition. It’s called your Sun rune, and it speaks to something specific: your soul’s essence, the purpose you’re here to walk, the version of yourself that feels most you when you’re not performing for anyone.
I’ve worked with mine every day for over 15 years. If you’re new to the birth runes, this is where I always tell people to begin — not because it’s the simplest, but because it’s the one that speaks most directly to who you already are underneath everything else.
What it is
Sunna’s Chariot — the Sun — travels through the runic wheel across the year, spending roughly two weeks in each rune (the same way the Sun moves through each sign of the Zodiac, if that’s a more familiar comparison). Wherever the Sun was riding when you were born is your Sun rune.
