Are you ready for an argument?

You might not be now but with Frigg (Venus) entering retrograde later this week a good old spat may be just one of the ways in which your wild side comes to claim you this lunar month.

Am I the only one who gets images of people capering barefoot through woodlands or skinny-dipping in February when I hear the term ‘claim your wild side’? I’ve done both and received deep healing and epic discomfort in equal measure. Getting back in touch with the great outdoors is just one way of walking with your wild side. I fear the idea of rewilding the self has been romanticised to the point where we want to do it without all of that ‘ow I’ve cut my capering foot on a jagged stone’ or ‘I don’t think I will ever, ever be warm again’. The wild is uncomfortable, which is why we love our cosy hearths. But the romanticised, declawed wild disconnects us from mamma earth’s warning signals that all this comfortable living is coming at a cost our children and their children will be paying. Storms a brewin’, arguments a comin’.

Your wild side is the part of you that embraces discomfort. It walks into the storm. It takes of its shoes at the sight of bracken. It laughs in the face of chillblains. It’s the part of you spoiling for an argument. It’s the part that one day simply refuses to get up because life is so far away from what it should be. It’s PMS on a daily basis. It’s angry and blunt and bull-in-a-china shop. It’s dancing in a way that is the opposite of elegant or sophisticated. It’s wailing and snotty. It attracts raised eyebrows and tutting.

Let’s imagine for a moment that destiny was going to arrange for you to have 3 hum-dinger arguments this month. It doesn’t matter how carefully you avoid or placate, it doesn’t matter how much you keep it together or strive for grace and gratitude. They are coming, like the storm, to disrupt your controlled existence and clear the air. Who would you argue with? What would you argue for?

Frigg, the goddess of peace-weaving and collaboration is leaving the building and, as she does so she whispers out of the corner of her mouth ‘Storm’s coming, make it matter’.

If you are new to Middle Earth Readings, we follow the lunar cycle, allowing us to dive deeper into each rune:

  • On the week of the new Moon we will be setting intentions for working with a single rune as a spirit guide during the course of the month.
  • On the week of the waxing Moon we will be opening to receiving the guidance and energies of that rune
  • On the week of the Full Moon we will be exploring rune magics
  • On the week of the waning Moon we will be working on releasing and completion ready for a new cycle to begin

We cover 6 runes in depth each session meaning we will cover all 24 during the course of each lunar cycle. Supporting every phase we have a beautiful discussion thread set up by the lovely Suzanne in the Hearthspace for you to share your intentions, receivings, magics and releasing.
