What if you decided life on the flip of a coin?
Let’s be honest. Lots about life is decided for us. Luck of a draw about how much is available to invest in our well-being and development, the shape/ colour/ health of our bodies, the affluence, status and relative broken-ness or empowerment of our friends and family. And that’s just what you’re born with. Some things can’t be risen above or re-framed (lots can, but that’s for another day).
Putting aside the ‘chosen for us’ there are also moments where the buck stops with us. Hesitating on the brink. Not sure if the opportunity is worth the risk. Oscillating between yes and no. Gathering all the data our rational, logical minds crave and still no nearer deciding. That’s when it’s time to flip the coin (or draw one choice from a hat if there are more than two). I’ve gotten clients to do this before and the minute the choice is made for them they know if it was the right one.

The point of the coin flip isn’t to put your future in the hands of a spinning disc of metal. You haven’t actually accepted the job, moved to the place, ended the relationship or taken out the loan. You’ve simply leapt into the truth of that possibility. You’ve stepped into the future and shouted back to the present from there “It’s better over here!” or “No! The view is awful!” Very often we do know. It’s just that we’ve already taken up the position of ‘undecided’ and part of it likes it there.
This week in Middle Earth Readings we explored the question ‘how can I sing the day awake?’ and looked at how where we have come from can limit our perspective on where we can travel to. Our oracle runes for this week are:
