Here’s your weekly update on what planetary movements are coming up. As always, Middle Earth Readings for the week is published at the bottom of the page after the live event.

Manni’s Chariot (the Moon ) moves through one rune approximately every 24 hours.  The potency of the Full Moon energy is like a high tide leaving tracks in the sand as it departs – it forms a current over the coming month.  Manni’s Chariot in Inguz brings out the hero in each of us; the one who is willing to go further than we thought we dared, dig deeper than we knew we could and summon our greatest strength in the times when we feel most weak.  Inguz is the rune of the hero/god/ancestor Ing who travels out into the unknown and returns transformed.  His nature resonates with the Moon God Manni whose chariot speeds ever onwards, carrying the Moon away from the greedy jaws of the terrible wolf Hati Hróðvitnisson (he who hates).  In its fulness the Moon is most desired by its pursuing shadow – and most protected from it.  Manni and Ing remind us that, when we feel most alone, beneath the silence of solitude can be heard  our song of songs; the sound of our own bright thread weaving ever onwards within the collective Tapestry of being.

Odin’s Chariot (Roman equivalent Mercury) in Nauthiz calls us to take the actions we know to be necessary – even if we don’t want to do them.  Nauthiz (precursor to the modern capital N) is the rune of necessity and desire – you can still see it in our modern word ‘need’.  Many fear this rune but it is a great teacher, drawing us in to closer partnership with our bodies, our emotions, our unconscious minds and our guides.  Finding the going tough?  Look for those serendipitous moments that push you towards choices that might be scary but you know deep down are the right ones.

We are currently in the half month of Nauthiz,  a rune with a dual nature. In one sense it is the hard hollow of lack, it is the cold earth, the dark days, the emptiness of loss, of starvation, the dark night of the soul. But it is also the hands that kindle the fire in that darkness and it is the spark of hope that won’t let you role over and die. This rune is about survival, not just of the body but of the soul.
